As we approached the end of the 20th Century I had the idea to try to determine what were the 100 Design Classics of the 20th Century.

Contained in this section are around 200 collected nominations from myself, my friends, my colleagues and the odd book or publication.

Only products designed in the 20th Century count. Things that were popularised from previous centuries are not eligible.
Although most nominations were by myself, friends and colleagues; and most information was obtained from the web; I did rely on 2 excellent books in some cases.

100 Designs / 100 Years
(Innovative Designs of the 20th Century)

by Mel Byars with Arlette Barré-Despond
ISBN: 2-88046-442-0

This book lists a best design for each year of the 20th Century, and has a small blurb about each design. It also gives a small list of happenings during each featured year.

20th Century Design
(Design Museum)

by Catherine McDermott
ISBN: 1-85868-710-1

This book lists over 360 best designs of the century, each with its own blurb. It is divided into categories such as architecture and fashion, which are (more or less) reflected in this web site.
